PHOTOGRAPHS: Question: "Where
do killer bees nest?" |
AHB in garage wall: a nest this size houses thousand of bees. After the nest is located and the bees destroyed, walls need be opened to remove comb containing honey, decaying larvae, pupae, and adult bees. If the nest is not removed, warm temperatures can cause the honey-laden wax to melt resulting in extensive property damage. Also, a dead nest with a booty of honey is highly attractive to many hungry insect and vertebrate pests. | |||||||||||||||

| An Africanized bee nest in a BBQ grill. Any enclosed cavity with access to the outdoors is a potential nesting site. Outdoor items should be periodically inspected for bees, especially those used occasionally. | ||||||||||||||||

| Another very large nest located in a homeowner's wall void. If disturbed, killer bee nests of this size are potentially life-threatening. Nest extermination should be only undertaken by a professional. | ||||||||||||||||
